Davis has also been named as one of the top 10 nominees for the Jerry West Award, which is given to the best shooting guard in Division I basketball.

Fan voting for the Jerry West Award begins on Friday, February 2, through social media channels. The top player selections from the fan vote will get an additional vote toward making the next round, and finalists will be presented to Jerry West and the selection committee in March. 

Davis and the Owls will host Tulsa at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip-off is at 6pm ET on ESPN+.

🔼 Tackling the Tricounty Takeover. The 2024 non-conference schedule has been set—Florida Atlantic football will play host to Wagner on Saturday, Sep. 28, 2024, at FAU Stadium.
 
The Owls open their second season under the direction of Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Tom Herman on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Michigan State. FAU opens the home schedule by hosting the 22nd Annual Shula Bowl versus FIU on Saturday, Sept. 14, and then travels to Connecticut, where it faces the Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 21. The non-conference schedule wraps up with the Wagner matchup.
 
Florida Atlantic's full American Atlantic Conference schedule is expected to be announced in mid-February.

🔼 Let’s Keep This Train ‘a Rollin’. Florida Atlantic women's basketball (6-13, 1-7 AAC) closes out the month of January in Alabama tonight, taking on the UAB Blazers (15-5, 6-2 AAC) for a midweek battle inside Bartow Arena. Tipoff is set for 7pm ET on ESPN+.

The Owls play on the heels of picking up their first-ever American Athletic Conference win on Saturday, earning a 63-56 road win against the Wichita State Shockers. Phenom Aniya Hubbard recorded her fifth 20-point game of the season during this contest.

The Owls return home this weekend to host the Rice Owls for a 1pm ET tip on Saturday, Feb. 3.

🔼 If It’s Wednesday, It’s Meet the Coaches. The Florida Atlantic Coaches Show, presented by Duffy's Sports Grill, continues this week by featuring men's basketball head coach Dusty May and assistant coach Kyle Church, along with junior guard Alijah Martin. They will join the show live from Duffy's Sports Grill on St. Andrews Boulevard in Boca Raton tonight at 6:30pm ET.

Fans are encouraged to attend and listen live to the voice of the Owls, Ken LaVicka, talking men's hoops with Coach May, Coach Church, and Martin. The group will discuss the Owls' season to date and preview this Saturday's contest versus Tulsa, scheduled for 6pm ET at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

🔼 Gone to the Gator (Invitational!). Florida Atlantic men's golf (+46) finished 12th at the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville University on Tuesday afternoon. Florida (+2) won the team event, as no teams finished under par.

QUICK HITS

  • As he did four times in the fall, Max Sturdza was the Owls' low finisher on the Dye's Valley course at TPC Sawgrass

  • After rounds of 71 and 75 on Monday, Sturdza closed with a two-over 72 on Tuesday that featured three birdies. He placed T28 in the 84-player field.

  • Freshman Andres Atrio also circled three birdies on Tuesday en route to a 74 and a tie for 43rd.

The Owls return to action at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville on February 17 and 18.

🔼 Not Exactly Mayhem. Florida Atlantic men's basketball coach Dusty May held his weekly press conference on Monday, meeting with the media to discuss the No. 20 Owls.
 
Florida Atlantic (17-4, 7-1 AAC) is coming off a game-buzzer win against North Texas on Sunday afternoon, a game in which Johnell Davis hit the game-winning three-pointer. 

“We need to clean up something things from a fundamental standpoint as a team and individually,” May said. “It [this time off] gives us a chance to practice and address some of our own things without having to worry about being fresh for the game.”

The Owls remain in a tie atop the AAC standings with Charlotte and tip off with Tulsa (11-8, 2-5) on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+. 

🔼 A Pigskin Preview. Florida Atlantic Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Tom Herman announced that the 2024 Spring Game will be played at noon on Saturday, April 13, in FAU Stadium.
 
The spring game will conclude the allotted 15 spring practice sessions allowed by the NCAA. Following a busy December, the Owls welcomed 32 newcomers to the roster (Click HERE for full roster) in January. In total, more than 100 players are on campus working towards individual strength and conditioning goals.
 
FAU will gain valuable time working together this spring and will then welcome a second group of June newcomers to the squad, including a blend of 2023 December signees and a few transfers.
