Pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck and Outfielder Presley Leebrick named AAC Players of the Week

Good morningPitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck and Outfielder Presley Leebrick for the FAU softball team (8-3) were named AAC Players of the Week for the first time this season.

After throwing on Friday afternoon against Louisville to get the win for the Owls, Schlotterbeck improved her record to 3-1 as she threw her first shutout of the season against Michigan on Saturday. With a 3-0 record over the weekend, the graduate pitcher finished with a 0.84 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched. 

In 17 at-bats, Leebrick registered four runs, seven hits, eight RBI, and a home run. In the week, she recorded a .412 batting average. In the game against Louisville, Leebrick hit a two-run home run to right field after an 11-pitch at-bat to tie the game for the Owls and get the offense going.

The Owls remain in Boca Raton this week, hosting the Owl Classic. The tournament begins tomorrow as they battle Boston College at 6pm ET.

🔼 Teeing Up the Dub. Florida Atlantic has announced plans for its first full-arena men's basketball t-shirt giveaway during Thursday's "Sandstorm" game as the Owls welcome SMU for a crucial American Conference match-up on ESPN2 at 7pm ET.

Thanks to the generosity of Shiner Law Group, sand-colored t-shirts will be on every seat in Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena when fans arrive for Thursday's sold-out game. The team is set to wear its special sand-colored Adidas jerseys for the game, and fans are encouraged to wear the t-shirt on their seat in an effort to make the Elly's atmosphere even more electric.

"Our fans have meant so much to us, and this is a small token of our appreciation," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White.

Florida Atlantic is 20-6 overall, while SMU brings a 19-7 record to Boca. The teams are tied for third place in the AAC, each with 10-3 conference marks.

🔼 Coaches Huddle Up. The Florida Atlantic Coaches Show continues this week by featuring Men's Basketball Head Coach Dusty May, Women's Basketball Head Coach Jennifer Sullivan, and Head Baseball Coach John McCormack. They will join the show live from Duffy's Sports Grill on St. Andrews Boulevard in Boca Raton this evening at 6:30pm ET.

The Owls' Ken LaVicka will be chatting with them about Thursday's first "Sandstorm" game, the women's basketball teams' victory over in-state foe USF, and the baseball season home opener this Friday.

🔼 Met Their Match. Florida Atlantic men's tennis team returned to the polls at No. 41 nationally.

The Owls are 8-3 on the season and currently riding a two-match winning streak. The Owls were rained out last weekend but will host fellow American Athletic Conference member UTSA on Sunday, Feb. 25, and will return to the courts the following Friday, March 1. Both matches are scheduled for 11am ET and will be played at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.

🔼 Spring Football Fever. FAU football fans will have the opportunity to see the Owls in person at the 2024 Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 13, at 12pm ET at FAU Stadium.
 
Along with the 2024 Spring Game, the Owls will return to Carter Park on Saturday, Apr. 6, for an off-campus open practice and an opportunity to practice in the heart of the tri-county area.
 
The intra-squad scrimmages will be a showcase for the more than 100 young men who have been working together since January and will continue to progress into the season opener at Michigan State on Aug. 31.

🔼 The Next Wave. The Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ready for their respective conference championships. The men's team will compete in their first Atlantic Sun Championship, competing today (Wednesday, Feb. 21) through Saturday, Feb. 24, held in Knoxville, Tennessee. Meanwhile, the women take on their second American Athletic Conference Championship in Dallas beginning tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 22) to Sunday, Feb. 25.
 
Following a successful regular season that saw a sweep in their midseason invite, the Owls look to carry over their momentum in conference play. 

Select Owls will next compete in their second National Invitational Championships, held from Thursday, Mar. 14 – Saturday, Mar. 16, in Ocala, Florida. Divers are set for the Diving B Zone Championships taking place from Mar. 11 to Mar. 16. The 2024 NCAA Championships are scheduled from Mar. 20 - 23 for men and Mar. 27 – 30 for women.

🔼 Inside the Mind of May. Florida Atlantic men's basketball head coach Dusty May held his weekly press conference on Monday, meeting with the media to discuss Owls men’s hoops and the game against SMU tomorrow. The Owls are now tied for third with SMU in the American Athletic Conference standings.

“They’re a very deep, connected team…sound on both sides of the ball,” May said of SMU. “Offensively, they have a lot of weapons.”

“Teams are gonna make tough shots,” he went on to say. “We just have to have the urgency to keep them from getting the early, open looks which gets them in a rhythm.”
 
Florida Atlantic (20-6, 10-3 AAC) faces SMU (19-7, 10-3 AAC) at the Elly tomorrow evening, with tipoff at 7pm ET.
