🔼 86’d the 49ers. Florida Atlantic volleyball (17-11, 9-6 AAC) extended its win streak to three on Friday, rallying from one set down to capture a four-set road victory over the Charlotte 49ers (10-17, 4-10 AAC) at Halton Arena.
Katelynn Robine essentially put on a clinic in the match, scoring a season-high 16 kills on a .316 clip. Robine scored seven of her 16 kills in the second set. Arianna Beckham and Valeria Rosado also had phenomenal nights, posting a pair of double-doubles with 13 kills and 13 digs, and 13 kills and 11 digs, respectively. Victoria Hensley powered the Owls’ impressive offense in the win, tallying a match-high 52 assists, while Romina Cornelio led the Owls back row, tallying a team-leading 15 digs.

🔼 Fending Off the 49ers, Part Two. And the good news keeps rolling in this weekend. The Florida Atlantic volleyball team (18-11, 10-6 AAC) picked up its second AAC sweep of the season, defeating the Charlotte 49ers (10-18, 3-13 AAC) in a huge five-set win, 3-2, inside Halton Arena on Sunday afternoon.
"Big win today, Charlotte really challenged us in every way, but we were the tougher team in the fifth set," expressed head coach Fernanda Nelson. "They played their hearts out today!"
Katelynn Robine led the Owls in the win once again, tallying a season-best 20 kills on a .250 clip and adding seven digs. Arianna Beckham and Valeria Rosado also had a big day for the Owls, recording a pair of double-doubles. Beckham posted a team second-best 15 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Rosado tallied her team-leading ninth double-double with 18 digs to go along with 14 kills. Victoria Hensley also tallied a double-double, marking her seventh this season, as she dished out a match-high 54 assists and tied for a team-leading 19 digs in the win.
The Owls return home for their final home series of the regular season, hosting the USF Bulls on Thursday, Nov. 16, and on Friday, Nov. 17, for Senior Day inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
🔼 The Good Stuff. Carpe Diem Cras translates to “Seize the day tomorrow,” which is the message Florida Atlantic head football coach Tom Herman had after the heartbreaking loss to the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday.
“This is uncharted territory for myself and most of our staff,” Herman said. “But the one thing I do know is we played well enough for about a month there to put ourselves in a position to play a Top 25 team at home with an opportunity to stay alive in the postseason, and that hasn't happened in here for three years. We still have a lot to play for, and we have to get up and go tomorrow."
Despite the outcome of Saturday’s game, there were certainly some bright spots by the FAU squad. Junior wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, the Paul Hornung Award Watch List member, showed off his signature versatility with a 12-yard run in a drive that culminated in redshirt junior quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. taking a read option into the end zone from three yards out.
Defensively, the takeaways kept coming with the Owls' 16th of the season. Graduate safety Jarron Morris snagged an interception for his team-leading third of the year. The Owls also continued to put forth an effective pass rush. Their three sacks for the night put them up to 26 this season, tied for most in a year since 2020, and the unit combined for 15 tackles for loss. Overall, the team finished with 15 tackles for loss, tying a single-game team record that goes all the way back to 2002.
"We can always play better. I know we held them to five field goals, but it wasn't enough to win a game,” Morris said. “We just have to eliminate more points and continue to do our job."
The Owls will host Senior Day for their final home game of the year against No. 20 Tulane on Saturday, Nov. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm ET.

🔼 These Owls Do Hibernate. Florida Atlantic University's men's and women's cross country teams put a close to the 2023 fall season in the NCAA South Regionals on Friday morning.
The Owls put forth a strong effort in their final meet of the XC season, with the men competing in a 10K race and the women running the 6K.
The top five finishers for the women's team all set personal bests and improved upon their times from the AAC Championships, while the men saw the second-best 10K time recorded in FAU history.
Up next for the Owls is indoor track season, set to kick off on Friday, Jan. 12.

🦉 ONE BIG THING
🔼 Now Fully Functional. In the spotlight today is Michael Johnson, Jr., who is in his third season with the Owls. After battling back from an injury sustained a year ago, the redshirt junior is committed to doing anything he can for the Owls. This year, he has seen time under center, on special teams as both a gunner and as a returner, and he shines in FAU's red zone packages. Johnson averages 6.6 yards per carry. The California native has carried the ball 18 times in eight games and has a team-high six rushing TDs.
