FAU men's golfer Max Sturdza earns bid to the NCAA Regional in Baton Rouge

Good morning, FAU Family. On the heels of being named to the AAC Men's Golf All-Conference Team, Florida Atlantic graduate senior Max Sturdza has earned a bid to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional from May 13-15, becoming the second FAU men's golfer to compete in NCAA postseason play.

The regional will consist of three days and 54 holes of stroke play at the University Club Golf Course, home of LSU Golf. The field will consist of 14 teams and five individuals. The top five teams and the low individual will advance to the NCAA National Championship May 24-29 at Omni Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

🔼 The Final Countdown. With only three weekends remaining on the American Conference Baseball Schedule, Florida Atlantic and UAB begin a crucial three-game set on Friday night. The Owls enter the weekend in fourth in the AAC standings. Get the full scouting report and important information on parking with graduation happening simultaneously.

🔼 All On the Line. Florida Atlantic softball returns home to take on the Golden Hurricanes on senior weekend. The Owls face Tulsa for the first time in the American Athletic Conference. Game one of the three-game series is set for tonight, with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. EST. Senior Day recognition will be after game three of the series.

The Owls improved their record (38-13, 18-6 AAC) and are tied at the top of the American Athletic Conference standings after taking the series from the Bulls in Tampa, Florida. FAU now has a chance to clinch the AAC regular season championship title at home.

🔼 The Walking Red (and Blue). Zombies, NIL, baseball umpires…Coach Mac shows his range with a wealth of different topics in this week’s episode. They also discuss three of the 12 seniors, provide an update on the MLB wins draft they did a few weeks ago, and preview this weekend's series with UAB.

🔼 Pitch Positively Perfect. Graduate Trinity Schlotterbeck was named No. 3 in the 2024 Softball America Two-Way rankings for the month of May.

The talented twirler leads the Owls pitching staff with a 16-5 overall record and 6-2 in conference play. She also leads in RBI with 44 on the season and 30 in conference play. Schlotterbeck has registered a .310 batting average on the season with 24 runs, 39 hits, and nine home runs. In the circle, she holds a 2.46 ERA in 125.0 innings and has recorded 67 strikeouts. With nine complete games on the year, she has thrown four shutouts. She set a new program record of three home runs and nine RBI in a game earlier in the season.

🔼 No Flash in the Pan. FAU women’s tennis team member Panna Bartha was named the 2024 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and was honored as an All-AAC selection. Bartha is the program's first women's tennis player to be recognized by the AAC, first as the Player of the Week on February 12th, then as an all-conference selection, and finally as the AAC Freshman of the Year. The freshman won her first 11 collegiate matches played to completion and was up in a 12th at the time the match was clinched.

🔼 O-O-Yeah. Another day, another Florida Atlantic Head Men's Basketball hire. Coach John Jakus announced bringing on Obim Okeke as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Okeke arrives at Florida Atlantic this month to join Jakus' inaugural staff for the 2024-25 season, where he will focus on film and analytics.

Previously, Okeke spent the 2022-23 NBA season with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a Player Development Video Analysis Associate. Reporting to the Director of Player Development in this role, he analyzed and charted game and practice videos and conducted various research projects.

🔼 Calling All Ballers. Featured this week on Florida Atlantic Inside the Owls Burrow is Cameryn Orland, a second baseman on the Owls' softball team that is vying for the American Athletic Conference crown. Orland chronicles her return from a knee injury, which was aided by her love for pickleball.

🔼 A is For Alberto, AAC, and All-Conference. Florida Atlantic men's tennis player Alberto Colas has been named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference team. Colas is the program's first men's tennis player to receive all-conference honors by the AAC.

The native of Zaragoza, Spain, held the Owls' top position in 2024 and earned a 13-5 record playing in every match. The 2024 season culminated Colas' two-year FAU career, as he built a 21-14 singles record and a 19-11 doubles mark.
