FAU men's and women's swimming and diving teams sweep the Patriot Invitational.
Good morning. The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Patriot Invitational with six school records and 17 first-place finishes, sweeping the whole thing.
The Owls will take well-deserved resting time. Select swimmers will participate in the Toyota U.S. Open, Nov. 29 – Dec. 2, and the Open Water National Championship on Dec. 17. The next meet will be the unofficial Florida Atlantic Fun Invite against Old Dominion and the University of Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 20, hosted at the FAU Aquatic Center.

🔼 You Ready for This Elly Jelly? The Florida Atlantic Owls (2-1) opened up their 2023-24 home season, earning a dominant 23-point win, 80-57, against the Chicago State Cougars (0-5) on Friday at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
“First of all, amazing crowd…maybe one of the better crowds since we’ve been here,” said head coach Jennifer Sullivan. “I’m really proud of our fight, especially in the fourth quarter.”
“It just starts with trusting my teammates and the coaching staff,” Aniya Hubbard said of leading her team against Chicago State by scoring 24 points—her third 20-point performance of the season. “They’ve got a plan for us, and we just gotta go out there and execute.”
Along with Hubbard, Janeta Rozentale and Alexa Zaph registered double-digit performances.
The Owls will remain in Paradise as they prepare to take on the Stetson Hatters on Monday, Nov. 20, for a 7 p.m. tip inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
🔼 A Blip on the Basketball Radar. The No. 10 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team (2-1) fell to Bryant (2-3) on Saturday evening.
For the second game in a row, the Owls found a score right off the opening tip, this time on a layup by Johnell Davis just four seconds in. Davis scored seven early on to take a 10-2 lead just four minutes in.
Davis tallied his second career double-double, leading the team with 17 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds.
While Florida Atlantic fought on every possession, holding the Bulldogs to almost six minutes without a field goal during the second half, the key shots did not fall.
"Hats off to Bryant, said head coach Dusty May. “They played determined, they played well, they made the plays they needed to make, and it's a good basketball team that has faced a lot of adversity, and they really came together as a group today.”
"We will not let this game define us,” said junior forward Giancarlo Rosado. “We are going to come to practice the next day and prepare for Butler.”
Florida Atlantic will head to Disney World for the eight-team ESPN Events Invitational. The first game will be Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, against Butler.
🔼 Perseverance Personified. The Florida Atlantic University football team (4-7, 3-4 AAC) fell to No. 17 Tulane (10-1, 7-0 AAC) by a score of 24-8 on Saturday afternoon.
Like many games this year, the unfortunate outcome was offset by Biletnikoff Watch List member and Paul Hornung Watch List member LaJohntay Wester, who not only set the program's single-season reception yards record in this game but also became the first Owl to record 100 catches in a season.
Daniel Richardson completed his first eight passes, finishing the day 24-for-31 for 202 yards, while graduate running back Kobe Lewis showcased his pass-catching ability, going for 34 yards on four receptions.
Defensively, graduate LB Jackson Ambush led the way with seven tackles, while Jaden Wheeler added a sack to his three tackles.
"I am really proud of our fight,” said head coach Tom Herman. “I know the scoreboard feels like it did the last couple of weeks, but we fought our tails off…We didn't do that [rushing] to their level, but our guys never quit. Our guys fought from the beginning to end, and I am really proud of that.”

One final game remains for the Owls, a road matchup against Rice next Saturday, Nov. 25. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. EST.
