Florida Atlantic baseballers Tyler Murphy + John Schroeder named to AAC Weekly Honor Roll
Good morning. Florida Atlantic pitcher Tyler Murphy and catcher/outfielder John Schroeder have each been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
Making his fourth consecutive Sunday start, Murphy did not concede a hit until the fifth and allowed just one other base runner via a walk. With his team up 21-1 after five frames, Murphy was lifted early but not before recording a career-high eight strikeouts.
Schroeder homered in all three games of the weekend series with FIU, including a pair of grand slams. He finished the series with 10 RBI and has now taken over the team lead in that category (17).

🔼 Pre-Madness Madness. In their first year in the American Athletic Conference, the Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team is well represented in the awards following the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season. Johnell Davis has been named the Co-AAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, while junior guard Alijah Martin and junior center Vlad Goldin have been named to the All-Conference second team.
The Owls enter their first 2024 AAC Tournament, taking place in Fort Worth, Texas, as the number two seed in the conference. Their first game is on Friday, March 15, against the winner of the North Texas vs. Tulane matchup. Tip-off is at 7:30pm ET, airing on ESPNU.

🔼 Spring Football Fling. On Tuesday morning, the Florida Atlantic football team took to the practice fields for the first time in 2024 for something other than off-season conditioning. Tuesday marked the first of 15 permissible "Spring Practices," and the Owls’ enthusiasm and competitiveness were on full display.
More than 100 players were dressed and ready to be put through the paces by an FAU coaching staff that returned all but one member and elevated from within for that vacated position. In fact, it is the first time since the 2014 and 2015 seasons that the Owls have returned both the offensive and defensive coordinators.
Go here for more on the players, the complete roster, and thoughts from the coaching staff on what they’ve seen thus far.
🔼 Batting A Thousand. Florida Atlantic Softball’s Trinity Schlotterbeck (20-6) was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season. This marks the second award for Schlotterbeck, as she was named AAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb.19.
After a tremendous weekend, she set a new record in program history with three home runs and nine RBI in a game to close out the inaugural AAC series against Wichita State. In 12 at-bats, Schlotterbeck registered five runs, five hits, and 15 total bases with a batting average of .417 on the week. On Sunday, she set another new program record, surpassing 14 total bases in a game.

🔼 May’s Tourney Talk. Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team (24-7, 14-4 AAC) is preparing to travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship tournament. Head coach Dusty May met with the media on Monday, this time with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.
“We’re looking forward to the conference tournament in a new venue and a great basketball environment from what everyone tells us,” May said. “Hopefully, we’re gelling at just the right time.”
🔼 The Bullpen Has Spoken. Florida Atlantic baseball never trailed en route to a 6-4 win over Miami on Tuesday night at home. The sides will meet three more times this season.
The Owls’ bullpen was in control from the fifth inning on. Danny Trehey relieved starter Zach Abbey and pitched 2.2 scoreless. Trehey gave way to Steven Andrews, who followed suit. With two on and two outs in the sixth, Andrews battled for an inning-ending strikeout of UM's Daniel Cuvet.
The Owls will play their final non-conference weekend series beginning Friday night against Maine. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm ET.
🔼 A Sandy Split. The No. 15 Florida Atlantic Owls (9-4) split against No. 4 Florida State (13-0), 0-5, and FGCU (9-7, 2-2 ASUN), 3-2, during the Sandy Owls' home-opening Capri Classic on Tuesday.
The Sandy Owls will now prepare for their second home tournament of the season as they host the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational on March 15-16 in Pompano Beach.
