The Florida Atlantic women's tennis team, who broke into the national poll this week at No. 63, defeated Pennsylvania 4-3 on Friday afternoon to improve to 11-1 on the year and extended the Owls winning streak to 11—matching a winning streak set in 2001-02. It was a match of determination, as it was initially scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday. Due to rain, it was moved to 12:15 p.m. After an hour and 35 minutes of play, the match was suspended again because of rain. It finally resumed on Friday morning!
"This is just an impressive team performance,” said FAU Director of Tennis Ricardo Gonzales. “This group of girls is very special, and they are very tough to beat.”
🔼 Sweeping the Leg. Florida Atlantic baseball thrashed FIU 24-2 on Sunday to claim a weekend series victory over FIU. The Owls have scored a combined 44 runs in the last two Sunday series finales. Tyler Murphy was perfect through four innings before the home run in the fifth. The sophomore finished with a career-high eight strikeouts, allowing just one hit.
The Owls will be back in action tomorrow when Miami visits for the first of four meetings this season. First pitch at the FAU Baseball Stadium is 6:30pm ET.
🔼 Going Clubbing. It's been nearly a month since Florida Atlantic men's golf competed in an event. The Owls will be back in tournament action on Monday in Alabama at the Auburn Tiger Invitational. Last time out, on February 17, FAU finished fourth at the Gator Invitational led by Top 20 individual finishes from Max Sturdza and Jack Wehle.
The field features 18 teams and 93 individual competitors. The Auburn University Club will play as a par 72 at 7,591 yards this week.
🔼 Trinity’s Trinity. The Florida Atlantic softball team won its inaugural series in the American Athletic Conference on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a historic 17-5 victory over Wichita State.
It was a performance for the ages for Trinity Schlotterbeck, who set the single-game program record in home runs (3) and RBI (9) along with a strong pitching performance. The Owls took the final game of the three-game road series.
🔼 The Sun Sets On the Season. The Florida Atlantic Owls (11-19, 6-12 AAC) couldn't overcome second-half struggles as their 2023-24 season came to a close on Saturday, falling 64-50 against the Wichita State Shockers (10-21, 5-13 AAC) during the first round of the American Athletic Conference tournament at Dickies Arena.
"I thought we battled, just really proud of our kids,” said head coach Jennnifer Sullivan. “They never gave up. We gave ourselves a chance throughout the game until late down the stretch in the fourth. But just couldn't come away with it, but just so proud of this group and what they've overcome, and thankful for all the work they've put into this program..."
