Paradise Brew 8/23: QB Won
Today, we know who's taking snaps under center in the fall.
Good morning. Hit this Wednesday morning like Jarron Morris hits in practice.
What all do we have steeping in today’s Brew?
🏐 Starting the season in third gear
⚽ Elin Simonardottir off to a fast start on and off the pitch
🦉 And much, much more!

🔼 QB Won. We know who’s taking snaps under center this fall—head coach Tom Herman has announced that Casey Thompson will be the starting quarterback for the regular season opener against Monmouth.
The incoming transfer has started 20 college games in his career, 10 at Texas and 10 at Nebraska, and his most prolific season came in 2021 when he was with the Longhorns and threw 24 touchdowns to lead all Big 12 quarterbacks.
But how’s he done acclimating to a new offense with his new team? Well…
🔼 Three Cheers. With its inaugural season in a new conference on the horizon, FAU volleyball was selected to finish tied for third in the AAC East division, with the Owls receiving a total of 48 points—including one first-place vote in the poll, as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.
Saved You A Click: SMU and Rice were ranked first and second respectively, receiving 78 and 76 total points. In the east division, Memphis enters the season as the preseason favorite, placing first with 72 total points and six first-place votes. East Carolina follows just behind Memphis in second with 70 total points.
FAU tied Temple for third in the east with 48 total points, but received a first-place nod, while Temple had no first-place votes. South Florida collected the final first-place vote in the east with 37 total points, while UAB and Charlotte rounded out the field in sixth and seventh with 35 and 33 points, respectively.
🔼 Mac On The Mic. School is back in session so no better time to catch up with the skipper after an eventful summer... Coach Mac and host Sam Dean cover several topics this week but the highlight is the MLB debut of Nolan Schanuel over the weekend.
Also, what do the Angels do with Shohei Ohtani and what do Coach Mac's Yankees do with their aging core?
Plus, an update on Caleb Pendleton, what does the roster look like now with all the turnover, and which series on the 2024 schedule are we most looking forward to?

🦉 ONE BIG THING
Elin Simonardottir has been named to the American Athletic Conference women's soccer honor roll as one of the league's five top players for the week.
The Icelandic international got this season off to a fast start with two goals in the season opener against Little Rock last week, equalling her total from 2022 in the first half alone. She finished with three shots on goal against Little Rock and added another on target in the dying seconds of last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Miami.
