Paradise Brew 2/2: POV: Owls Dunking on the Competition
Enjoy the cinematic of FAU men's basketball team's recent last-second win over North Texas
Good morning. In case you missed it, go here for the cinematic of the win against North Texas on Sunday, Jan 28.
And if you need more incentives, this was the game in which Johnell Davis—who has since been named to the 2024 John R. Wooden Award watch list and became the AAC Player of the Week— nailed a miraculous shot from downtown to give Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team the 66-63 victory over North Texas.
The shot, made with just 0.4 left on the clock, gave Davis 28 points on the day.

🔼 Frank’s Forte. Inside the Owls Burrow, hosted by Florida Atlantic's Frank Forte, airs on Bally Sports Florida at 11:30am ET each Thursday and re-airs at the same time each Saturday.
This week's show aired on Feb. 1. It featured Devyn Scott of women's basketball, who has her sights set on a career in dentistry. Forte also sat down with men's basketball forward Tre Carroll to discuss his developing role with the team. Also featured is Nick Boyd mic'd up for practice.
This week also showcases two outstanding members of the diving team, Alicia Mora and Brandon Shepherd, and previews the 2024 men's tennis season, which features six new players.
🔼 Paradise-Bound. The Florida Atlantic Owls (6-14, 1-8 AAC) couldn't overcome second-quarter struggles, falling on the road against the UAB Blazers (16-5, 7-2 AAC) on Wednesday inside Bartow Arena.
"I thought for the most part in the first half we did a good job defending the 3-point line, but credit to UAB, they beat us in other ways,” Head Coach Jennifer Sullivan said. “Off the dribble, pull-up jumpers. I thought we had opportunities to close it up and get it close, but we just couldn't take advantage. We will regroup and get ready for Rice."
The Owls return to Paradise to welcome the Rice Owls on Saturday for Florida Atlantic's National Girls & Women in Sports Day game. Tipoff is set for 1pm ET at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
🔼 It’s All Paradise. The five-game homestand continues this weekend for the Florida Atlantic women's tennis team, with matches scheduled for Friday, Feb. 2 versus Georgia State and Sunday, Feb. 4 versus DePaul. Sunday's match is free t-shirt giveaway day as part of the National Girls & Women in Sport Day.
Florida Atlantic won back-to-back games last weekend by a 5-2 score and will look for a similar fate this weekend. The Owls were victorious in 2022 versus the GSU Panthers and hold the all-time series at 4-3. FAU will look for their first win versus DePaul in their fourth contest versus the Blue Demons.
Florida Atlantic will then travel to Tampa, Florida, to face in-state foe and fellow member of the American Athletic Conference, USF. The contest is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 9 at noon. The Owls will remain in Tampa and play AAC member North Texas on USF's campus on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 12pm ET.
🔼 Home, Sweet Paradise. The Florida Atlantic men's tennis team returns home to play host to FGCU and Charlotte after an impressive 2-1 road swing that included a match versus the nation's back-to-back champion, #3 Virginia. Both matches are scheduled to be played under the lights with a 5 p.m. first serve, facing FGCU on Friday, Feb. 2, and Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 3. The Charlotte contest is a schedule change due to expected weather.
The Owls are 5-1 on the year and have shown themselves to be a strong doubles team, building a 9-5 record overall and capturing four doubles points in six matches played.
The Owls are 12-4 all-time versus FGCU and were a 5-2 winner last season, moving the current winning streak against the Eagles to seven. Florida Atlantic and Charlotte are first-year members of the American Athletic Conference (AAC), where they do not play a full AAC schedule and rely upon the season-ending tournament to award a champion. The Owls versus 49ers all-time series stands at 3-3.
