Paradise Brew 9/8: Owls Rout Rattlers

Head Coach Zach Kittley earned his first career win in convincing fashion, with the Florida Atlantic football team defeating Florida A&M by a score of 56-14 on Saturday night.

Good Morning, FAU Family. Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Zach Kittley earned his first career win in convincing fashion, with the Florida Atlantic football team defeating Florida A&M by a score of 56-14 on Saturday night at Flagler Credit Union Stadium.

Redshirt junior QB Caden Veltkamp tied a program record with five touchdown passes on the evening. The Owls (1-1) scored four touchdowns on their first four drives on the way to the blowout victory over the Rattlers (0-2).

🔼 Winning Team With “Hart.” The Florida Atlantic volleyball team wrapped up the Michigan Invitational on Saturday as the Owls earned their fifth sweep of the season, defeating the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles, 3-0, at the Crisler Center.

Olivia Hart and Anna Hartman led the Owls offensively, scoring 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Hartman led the team with an impressive .600 hitting clip. Emsley Venard dished out a match-best 21 assists. Defensively, Zoe Winford and Erin Morrisey led the Owls in digs, recording 13 and 10, respectively.

🔼 A Fiery Hot Start 🔥. Florida Atlantic's men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2025 season at the Keiser Invitational. 

Both teams ran a 5k on Friday morning. The women's team placed first out of six teams, while the men's team placed third out of eight teams

It was a great day for the Owls, as senior Anabell Reumann placed third overall and came in first for Florida Atlantic with a time of 18:11.9. Her time marks her fastest 5k in her collegiate career. On the men's side, junior Noah Highsmith ran his fastest 5k of his career, registering a 16:18.8 on the day. 

🔼 The Right Hand Man. From day one, first-year Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Zach Kittley has emphasized the importance of special teams. 

Special Teams Coordinator Tyler Schovanec has been by Coach Kittley's side since his time at Houston Christian, through Texas Tech, and has now been tasked with leading the third phase of the game for the Owls.

Frank Forte sat down with Coach Schovanec to discuss his long-time relationship with Coach Kittley, the techniques of a strong special teams unit, and the influence of his father, currently the president at Texas Tech. The segment is featured in Season 10, Episode 4 of "Inside the Owls' Burrow," which airs weekly on the FanDuel Sports Network Florida and can be watched on YouTube.

🔼 Lightning Won’t Strike Twice. Florida Atlantic women's soccer fell by a 5-0 final against No. 7 Florida State on Sunday afternoon. The match was called after 78 minutes due to persistent lightning in the area.

FAU finished the match with transfer Megan Hogate, who registered four saves, her career-high in a game.
