Good Morning, FAU Fam. No. 19 Florida Atlantic men's soccer stayed unbeaten through five matches this weekend, battling to a scoreless draw with Cleveland State on Saturday. night. The Owls controlled the run of play, outshooting the Vikings 13-5 with a 7-3 edge in shots on goal, but the woodwork and a big night from Cleveland State's keeper kept them off the board.

Alfred Mikkelsen made three saves as FAU has now kept a clean sheet in four of five matches this season. American Conference play opens at home on Friday against No. 25 Charlotte at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

🔼 Streak Continues. Lola Hathorne put on a show from distance yesterday afternoon at Pickering Field, scoring twice from well outside the box as Florida Atlantic women’s soccer battled Florida Gulf Coast to a 3-3 draw. The freshman leveled things in the 19th minute on an assist from Hailey Santiago, then struck again from even further out in the 33rd to give the Owls a 2-1 halftime lead. Alex Bayouth added her first career FAU goal just 16 seconds after the Eagles equalized in the second half. FAU has now posted two wins and two ties over its last four outings, and heads to Fargo on Thursday to face North Dakota State.

🔼 Bright Spots In The Swamp. Florida Atlantic opened the 2026 season in a tough environment at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, falling to Florida 66-21 while showing flashes on offense with four red zone trips and three touchdowns. Kelby Valsin made a statement in his Owl debut, hauling in 10 catches for 92 yards and a score; he was the only player in the American Conference with double-digit receptions in Week 1.

Caden Veltkamp completed 34 of 52 passes, both marks ranking fourth in program single-game history, and added a rushing touchdown. Sophomore Ethan Ervin turned in a career day with 16 carries for 50 yards and his first collegiate touchdown.

🔼 Home in Paradise. Florida Atlantic defensive back Damarius McGhee has taken the long road to Boca Raton, with stops at LSU and Kansas before landing in Paradise for his final two seasons. The Pensacola Catholic product discusses his journey in a Meet Damarius McGhee feature, talking about how he reconnected with cornerbacks coach Antonio Fenelus. His first season as an Owl was the most successful of his career, something he credits to learning how to take care of his body. Off the field, McGhee is embracing fatherhood and building chemistry in a defensive back room full of new faces.

🔼 Record Books Rewritten. Florida Atlantic cross country opened the season in style at the Florida Intercollegiate meet in Jacksonville, posting four new all-time top-10 finishes. The women placed third as a team with 83 points and four runners in the top 25, led by grad transfer Kate Drummond, who won the race in her first FAU meet with the program's ninth-fastest 5K at 17:57.8. On the men's side, freshman Carter Dieterich clocked 15:51.58 in his first collegiate race, the fourth-fastest time in program history. All five Owl men finished in the top 60. Next up is the Pre-Regional meet in Tallahassee on Friday.

🔼 Tyson Leads The Way. Florida Atlantic men's golf sits in 11th place at 3-under after the opening round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate. NaShawn Tyson paced the Owls with a 3-under 69, circling four birdies on his opening nine and three more on the back to sit tied for 14th individually. Preston Worch and Christian Veilleux each carded a 1-under 71 to share 28th. Freshman Tristan Rhodenizer made things interesting with two eagles, one on each side. Two rounds remain today and tomorrow.
