The Shula Bowl Trophy is staying in Boca Raton after a 16-10 win over FIU on Saturday night! The Owls picked off three passes in the first quarter alone and turned them into 10 points, with Chris Tooley III taking one 47 yards to set up Leonard Farrow's first Division I touchdown. Tooley earned Shula Bowl MVP honors after adding five tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. The defense closed it out with a Damarius McGhee pass breakup on fourth down, a Jay Crable sack on another fourth down, and a final red zone stand as time expired.

🔼 Shula Standouts. FAU named its standout players from Saturday’s thrilling Shula Bowl victory!

🔼 Coming Back. Florida Atlantic men's soccer fell behind twice at Memphis last night and answered both times, leaving with a 2-2 draw and extending its unbeaten run. Justin Bangura struck three minutes into the second half, beating the Tigers' keeper to a long ball from Jonas Sundli-Hardig for his first goal as an Owl. After Memphis went back in front, FAU spent much of the final half hour camped in the Tigers' end before Kevin Gorbell headed home a Xavi Csato free kick in the 84th minute, also his first FAU goal. The Owls head to Tulsa on Saturday for their third American Conference match.

🔼 Hitting Clinic. Florida Atlantic volleyball closed out non-conference play with a sweep of Alabama State on Saturday, hitting a blistering .458 as a team while holding the Hornets to .181. Maya Van Heyst ran the show with a match-best 39 assists, averaging 13 per set, and chipped in five kills and six digs. Olivia Hart led the attack with 12 kills and Luye Marquez-Moreno added 10, while Isabelle Northam anchored the back row with a match-high 14 digs. The third set got tight; Alabama State held set point at 25-24 before Libby Ashline closed it out at 29-27. The Owls head into conference play at 7-4.

🔼 Fourth in Tallahassee. Florida Atlantic women's cross country placed fourth among 28 teams Friday morning at the Pre-Regionals meet in Tallahassee. Kate Drummond led the way with a 10th-place finish, shaving nearly 30 seconds off her personal best with a 21:39.2 on the 6K course at Apalachee Regional Par, which is now the sixth-fastest time in program history. Teegan Anderson and Ellis Vaughan crossed a second apart in 36th and 37th.

On the men's side, the Owls placed six runners inside the top 113 of a 224-runner field. Both squads return to Apalachee on Oct. 9 for the FSU XC Invitational.

🔼 Splashy Start. Florida Atlantic swimming and diving opened the 2026-27 season at Indian River on Friday, with the women rolling to a 217-83 win. Talitha McEwan took two individual events, winning the 200 free and the 200 back, while the Owls went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free behind Viktoria Freja Sørensen. Newly named captain Augusta Ness won the 1-meter diving with a 258.67. On the men's side, freshman Samuel Campbell won both backstroke events in his collegiate debut, and Niccolo Scornaienghi swept the diving boards.

🔼 Freshman Phenom. Freshman Clemence Da Costa paced Florida Atlantic at the Mason Rudolph Championship, tying for 30th after opening rounds of 72 and 71. Tina Genoulaz posted the Owls' low score in the final round with a 75 to finish tied for 58th. The Owls have a month off before returning to action at the Richmond Spider Invitational on Oct. 19-20 in Midlothian, Virginia.

🔼 Where Are They Now. Former Owl receiver William Dukes, a team MVP, sat down with Frank Forte to look back on his career and talk about life as a deputy sheriff in last week's "Where Are They Now?" on Inside the Owls' Burrow.

🔼 Honoring Educators. Florida Atlantic took part in the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers initiative last week, with Director of Athletics Josh McCowan and head coach Zach Kittley visiting A.D. Henderson University School. The pair presented a check to the school's Teacher of the Year, Ella Pilliterri, with her son Avery accepting on her behalf in front of a gathering of students. The funds go toward classroom resources.
