Paradise Brew 8/14: This One Time, at Fall Camp

What's covered at FAU Football Fall Camp goes well beyond offense and defense

Good Morning, Owl Nation. Players learn much more during Fall Camp than the offenses and defenses they will be asked to execute.

Sometimes, it's about getting to know each other; other nights, it might be about personal finance or a lesson on nutrition. Most recently, the Owls were educated on college football rule changes.

While the Owls are busy preparing for these changes in their day-to-day practices, it’s a good time for Florida Atlantic fans to discover the new rules and how they will impact the game. Go here for more on this and the latest in modern football technology.

What all do we have stirring in the Brew today? Check it out below!

🔼 Fielding Opportunities. The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and had three Owls on the Players to Watch list, as announced by the league office.

The Owls finished the 2023 season with a 3-3-3 record in conference play. Florida Atlantic made its first appearance in the AAC Championship Tournament and beat South Florida (1-0) to advance to the semifinals.

Ahead of their second season in the AAC, the conference announced Goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez, Defender Jodi Smith, and Midfielder Sofia Voldby as the three players to watch for Florida Atlantic.

🔼 Burrow’s Back, Baby. Florida Atlantic football's 'Inside the Owls Burrow' enters its ninth season with the season premiere scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 15, at 5:30 and 11 p.m. The show will re-air on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The show originates on Bally Sports Florida but can also be viewed on fausports.com and YouTube.

Host and longtime South Florida broadcaster Frank Forte will sit down with head football coach Tom Herman each week this fall. Additionally, this week Forte will profile FAU quarterback Cam Fancher. He will also look at the newest Owl freshmen getting outfitted and moving into their dorms, including parents as they send their sons on to the next chapter of their lives. Plus, Forte will look back at the top summer conditioning performers in the Owls' preparation for the 2024 season opener.

🔼 No Blunders Down Under. Join Charlotte Perkins for a day in the life practicing at home in Australia. The Sydney native is gearing up for her second season with the Owls after competing in all 10 events in her debut campaign. Perkins set the FAU freshman record with 60 birdies in 2023-24 and finished 14th at the American Conference Championship.

🔼 Sweat Sesh. The Florida Atlantic football team enjoyed a Sunday away from the practice fields but returned to work Monday morning with corrections and a full slate of practice, the first this fall at the Schmidt Family Complex.

The pace remained the same as the squad has become increasingly accustomed to the August heat in South Florida.

"I came here wanting to train like a 10-year vet[eran],” said freshman safety C.J. Heard. “Every day, I'm in a routine. I wake up at 4:30 a.m., brush my teeth, read my bible, stretch, and get in my boots. I stay on a disciplined routine throughout camp…”

Also, go here for the first stadium scrimmage takeaways. And go here for how their Tuesday practice in full pads went.
