Paradise Brew 6/9: FAU Embraces New Era of Sports
Florida Atlantic Athletics has established the Competitive Excellence Fund to create a brighter future for FAU through student-athlete success.
Good Morning, FAU Family. The approval of the Grant House vs. NCAA settlement is a landmark moment in Division I athletics which opens the door for revenue sharing with student-athletes and allows for the increase in the number of scholarships schools are permitted to offer, among other significant changes.
Prepared to embrace this new era, Florida Atlantic Athletics has established the Competitive Excellence Fund to be the driving force behind the mission of creating a brighter future for FAU through student-athlete success.

🦉 And much, much more
Number of the Day: 82
We’re counting down the days to the return of Florida Atlantic football on August 30 at Maryland! In honor of there being 82 days left until kickoff, we take a look at former Florida Atlantic football player Azeez Al-Shaair, whose arm length is .82 per Wikipedia. Hey, it’s a bit of a stretch (pardon the pun), but these stats can’t all be winners!
Al-Shaiir received the First-team All C-USA Award in 2017, and now plays in the NFL for the Houston Texans.
Countdown to Kickoff is brought to you by Shiner Law Group Accident & Injury Lawyers. We don’t just handle cases – we fight tirelessly for your rights, seeking the compensation you deserve while providing compassionate, personalized legal support every step of the way.

🔼 Coach Connection. Florida Atlantic men's basketball assistant coach Jordan Fee has been selected to participate in the 2025 TopConnect Basketball Symposium in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Monday, June 9.
TopConnect identifies the top assistant basketball coaches in the country and connects them with mid-major athletic directors, providing tremendous networking and leadership development opportunities for both parties.

Oh-Yah. Florida Atlantic head WBB coach LeAnn Freeland added another skilled guard to the 2025-26 squad on Friday with the addition of Michiyah Simmons after three seasons at South Alabama.
This past season, Simmons played in 28 contests, making three starts for the Jaguars. The junior averaged 7.5 points per game and collected 2.8 rebounds per contest, in addition to 37 assists and 21 steals. Simmons recorded 10 double-figure scoring performances, scoring a career-best 22 points, including a career-high nine made field goals at Charleston Southern.
