Paradise Brew 5/22: Making The Grade

Plus: The first Owl to qualify at the NCAA Outdoors since 2003!

Good Morning, FAU Fam. Florida Atlantic's Jessica Hatch has qualified for the NCAA East First Round in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, becoming the first Owl to represent FAU at the outdoor NCAA stage since Jessica Lambert in 2023!

The England native set the program record with a 10:07.58 at the Penn Relays, the second-fastest time in the American Conference this season. She is just the second athlete in FAU history to qualify in the steeplechase, following four-time qualifier Friederike Feil. Hatch heads to Lexington, Kentucky, on May 28.

🏈 Making the Grade
⚾ A Season To Remember
🦉 And much, much more

🔼 Owls Ace The Classroom. Florida Atlantic student-athletes posted a 3.337 departmental GPA this spring, extending their streak to 22 consecutive semesters above a 3.0 and nine straight at 3.1 or better. Men's swimming and diving led the men's side at 3.530 while women's golf topped all teams at 3.725.

Overall, 315 student-athletes earned a 3.0 or better, 58 posted a perfect 4.0, and 206 made the President's or Dean's Lists.

🔼 Making The Grade. Florida Atlantic football posted a 3.043 team GPA this spring, cracking the 3.0 mark for the first time in program history. Under head coach Zach Kittley, the Owls have set the program's highest GPA three consecutive semesters. Sixty-four players earned a 3.0 or better, with Joshua Harriott and Tito Nunez making the President's List and 21 others landing on the Dean's List.

🔼 A Season To Remember. Florida Atlantic's season came to a close with a tough 3-2 loss to Wichita State in the American Conference Tournament play-in game, but the Owls have plenty to build on. After a 2-7 start in conference play, FAU ripped off five straight weekend series wins to earn a tournament berth and finished with two all-conference honorees in First Team pitcher James Litman and Second Team third baseman Nick Romano. Litman was sharp once again Wednesday, striking out seven in 4.2 innings, while John Martinez provided a jolt with a solo home run. The Owls posted the best fielding percentage in the American this season.

At Sage Dental, we focus on preventing dental emergencies, but we understand they can happen. Here are tips for handling common emergencies:

  • Toothache: Rinse with warm water, floss gently, apply a cold pack for swelling,
    and see a dentist promptly.

  • Knocked-Out Tooth: Handle by the crown, rinse gently, store in milk or saline if
it won’t go back in the socket, and see a dentist within 30 minutes.

  • Chipped/Broken Tooth: Save pieces, eat soft foods, apply gauze to stop
bleeding, use a cold pack for swelling, and seek dental care immediately.

  • Lost Filling/Crown: Keep the crown, rinse with warm water, avoid chewing on
the affected side, and visit the dentist for repair.

Answer: Women's swimming, with eight.

🦉 Have a great weekend, Owl Fam!
