Paradise Brew 5/21: Owls vs. Owls

Owls Battle _________ To Stay Alive At AAC Tournament In Clearwater

Good Morning, Owl Family. A ninth inning rally by FAU baseball fell short on Tuesday in a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Tulane on day one of the AAC Tournament.

Trailing 6-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Owls rallied with two runs and had the game-winning run at the plate. Nick Romano (RBI single) and Dylan LaPointe (bases-loaded walk) were once again the run producers. But the comeback ultimately fell short as Tulane's Taylor Montiel struck out Ayden Garcia with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Owls will play Rice in an elimination game at 1 p.m. today.

🔼 Fab Five. The American Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams for baseball on Monday. Florida Atlantic was well-represented with Trey Beard and Marshall Lipsey leading the First Team, Brando Leroux and MJ Bollinger selected to the Second Team, and James Litman included on the All-Freshman Team.

🔼 See You in the Swamp. Florida Atlantic football has announced that the Owls will travel to Gainesville on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, to face the University of Florida.

The meeting will be the fifth time that the two teams have squared off, each being played in "The Swamp". The first two were played under the direction of FAU's inaugural head coach Howard Schnellenberger. In 2007 the Owls' first championship season, FAU fell 59-20 to the then-defending National Championship team. Schnellenberger also led the Owls into Gainesville in 2011, the legendary coach's final season. A 2015 Charlie Partridge-led team would force the Gators into overtime, ultimately falling 20-14.

Their most recent meeting was in 2021 when a Willie Taggart-led team fell to UF by a score of 35-14.

🔼 Loud and Proud. We have to give one last shout-out to Owl Nation for the steadfast support of Owls Softball all season long!

🔼 That’s the Point. FAU head WBB coach LeAnn Freeland has announced the addition of transfer point guard Ineivi Plata from Saint Francis.

Plata joins the Owls as a sophomore after playing her freshman season at Saint Francis. During her freshman season, Plata earned Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team honors after leading the Red Flash in assists (82), ranking eighth in the NEC, steals (42), tying for sixth in the league, and defensive rebounds (85), averaging 2.8 defensive boards per contest.
