Paradise Brew 4/8: The Sights & Sounds of Spring

Plus: Standing out.

Good Morning, FAU Fam.

What else do we have mixed into today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🥎 Standing out
🎉 Time to celebrate
🦉 And much, much more

🔼 Owlspys 2026. FAU student-athletes gathered last night for the 12th annual Owlspys, with swimmer Daniel Laureyssens and softball pitcher Autumn Courtney making history as the first duo to sweep both the Student-Athlete and Athlete of the Year awards in the same year. Laureyssens holds five school records and became the first FAU male swimmer to compete at the NCAA national meet since 2006. Courtney, a unanimous American Conference Pitcher of the Year, led FAU to its second straight American regular season title and logged 50 career wins and 500 career strikeouts. Beach volleyball took home Team Performance of the Year and the Owl Cup went to softball.

🔼 Hometown Team Tour. FAU Athletics is hitting the road for its annual Hometown Team Tour, with three stops featuring Q&As, giveaways, merchandise and meet-and-greets with head coaches including football's Zach Kittley, men's basketball's John Jakus, women's basketball's LeAnn Freeland, and AD Brian White. The tour stops at The Cove Brewery in Deerfield Beach (April 21), Johnnie Brown's in Delray Beach (April 28), and Miller's Ale House in Coral Springs (May 13), all from 5:30 to 7 p.m. More details here.

🔼 Standing Out. Junior outfielder Ciara Gibson picked up American Conference recognition for the second consecutive week, earning Honorable Mention after batting .500 with five hits, two doubles, two homers, and seven RBI in a weekend series at North Texas. Gibson launched home runs in each of the final two games, including a two-double inning in the series finale's 17-7 win. Gibson has been on an absolute tear: 14-for-25 with 11 runs, six homers, and 14 RBI, driving in at least one run in every appearance. The Owls head to Tampa to face South Florida, April 10-12.

🔼 Home Sand. FAU beach volleyball hosts the 2026 Capri Classic this weekend, featuring a tribute to late coach and Hall of Famer Capri Grotowski, with Friday matches against North Florida and Jacksonville streaming live on ESPN+ and marking the first home beach volleyball broadcasts in program history.

🔼 Time To Celebrate. FAU women’s tennis packed a full day of celebration into Saturday, honoring four-year senior Maya Shanok and the No. 27 nationally ranked 2025 NCAA team in the morning, gutting out a 4-3 victory over Tulane in the afternoon, and capping it with a team dinner and awards ceremony in the evening. Check out pics from the day.

If a Florida Atlantic baseball player hits a grand slam in the 4th inning during one of the selected home games, one lucky fan will win $15,000 toward the lease or purchase of a brand new car from Phil Smith Acura or Phil Smith Kia.
