Paradise Brew 3/9: Clean Sweep

Plus: Softball takes the rubber match.

Good Morning, FAU Family.

What else do we have mixed into today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🥎 Rubber match
🏖️ Bump, set, spike
🦉 And much, much more

🔼 Clean Sweep. Florida Atlantic (9-6) capped a three-game sweep of FIU with a 7-3 win Sunday, powered by a gem from freshman right-hander Garrett Grant. Making just his third collegiate start, Grant fired seven shutout innings, allowing five hits with five strikeouts to earn his first career win, dropping his season ERA to a sparkling 0.96 across 18.2 innings. The Owl bats pounded out 15 hits, with Marshall Lipsey, Michael Perazza, Nick Romano, and John Martinez each collecting three knocks.

Lipsey was the weekend's offensive star, going 9-for-15 across the series with a homer, a double, and six runs scored. A four-run fifth inning featuring six consecutive singles blew the game open. FAU has now won six of its last seven heading into a midweek set against Presbyterian tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

🔼 Rubber Match. Florida Atlantic softball (19-7, 2-1 American) broke open a tight game with a five-run sixth inning to take the conference-opening series at Charlotte on Sunday. Kylie Hammonds was the star of the weekend, going 6-for-8 across the series with three homers, four RBI, and five walks. Autumn Courtney pitched four solid innings to improve to 8-4, while Ainsley Lambert escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and retired six straight to close it out for her American-leading fourth save. Yani Guzman stayed hot with two more hits, extending her streak of reaching base to 12 of her last 13 games. The Owls have outscored opponents 115-24 in their last 14 wins. FAU hosts East Carolina on March 13 at 6 p.m.

🔼 Bump, Set, Spike. The No. 15 Sandy Owls wrapped up the Chanticleer Challenge in Conway, S.C. with a split, falling 5-0 to No. 4 Cal Poly in the first-ever meeting between the programs before bouncing back with a 4-1 win over Georgia State. Cameron Knifton and Allison Spittal set the tone against the Panthers with a dominant 21-13, 21-12 sweep at the fives, improving their team-best pair record to 10-2 on the season. Denisse Morgenstern and Shantel Starling clinched the dual at the twos, and Klaire VanDeusen and Mia Scanlon added another straight-set victory at the threes. FAU (10-2) heads home to host its Beach Invitational in Pompano Beach on March 14-15.

We were proud to partner with @ADT to bring this moment to life and create an electric experience for our fans, alumni, student-athletes, and ADT employees in attendance. 💙🏀

Strong partnerships like this help us celebrate legacy, strengthen our community, and create meaningful moments on and off the court. From honoring our first responders to energizing the arena, this was a night that reflected what collaboration can truly accomplish.

Thank you to ADT for supporting our program, our fans, and those who help protect and serve.
