Paradise Brew 3/5: Coach Jakus' Auspicious Start
Florida Atlantic MBB head coach John Jakus has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2024-25 Joe B. Hall Award.
Good morning, Owls Family. Florida Atlantic MBB head coach John Jakus has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2024-25 Joe B. Hall Award. Jakus is among an elite group of finalists being recognized for their leadership and ability to transform their teams.
The award, named in honor of the legendary coach who led the University of Kentucky to a national championship in 1978, highlights the achievements of NCAA Division I MBB coaches who are making significant strides in their first season at the helm.
Under Jakus, the Owls are flying towards a top-four seed in the upcoming AAC Tournament with an overall record of 16-13, including 9-7 in the league.

🔼 Sweet Senior Day Send-Off. The Florida Atlantic Owls closed out the regular season with an exclamation point on Tuesday, earning a 69-62 win over the Memphis Tigers on Senior Day inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. With the win, Florida Atlantic improves to 11-20 overall and 3-15 in AAC play.
Mya Perry and Stefanie Ingram led the way for the Owls offensively. Perry finished with a career-high 31 points, while also adding three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. It marked Perry's first career 30-point game and her 10th time this season scoring 20 or more points.

🔼 20 Dubs And Counting. The No. 24 Florida Atlantic softball team achieved their 20th victory of the season, defeating Middle Tennessee on Monday evening by a score of 4-3.
Four runs by the Owls (20-4) in the third inning was just enough to beat the Blue Raiders (4-12). Junior pitcher Autumn Courtney made her ninth start on the year and recorded double-digit strikeouts for the third time this season. She moves to 10-1, currently leading the AAC in victories.

🔼 We’ll Take That All Day and Twice on Tuesday. Florida Atlantic men's golf (+36) tied for third at the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Senior Jake Hibbert led the way in a tie for ninth individually.
Hibbert finished inside the Top 20 for the third consecutive event this spring. Biagio Gagliardi and Guilherme Grinberg each tied for 17th.

🔼 Destiny’s Fate. The No. 24 Florida Atlantic softball team has received another weekly honor from the AAC, with Destiny Johns earning honorable mention. The Owls (19-4) have won an AAC accolade in each of the first four weeks of the 2025 season, two of them coming from a freshman.
With a .563 batting average for nine hits, 13 RBI, two doubles, two triples, one home run, and two walks, the freshman Johns led the Owls' offense to three run-rule victories and four wins in five games at the Austin Peay-hosted Governors Invitational.

🔼 The FAU One-Two Punch. Florida Atlantic junior Jake Duer and sophomore Trey Beard have each been named to the AAC Weekly Honorable Mention List. This is the second honorable mention nod of the season for each player.
Beard was dominant again in Friday's 5-2 win over Fordham, setting a new career-high with 12 strikeouts in six innings—his third straight start with double-digit Ks.
Duer put together a 9-for-17 line at the plate across four games, capping off the week with a walk-off solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 series finale win over Fordham.

🔼 Sandy Owls In Sync. After securing four straight-set wins at the FIU Invite this weekend and extending their perfect record to 8-0, Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova were named the Conference USA Pair of the Week. The honor marks back-to-back awards for the Sandy Owls this season, the fourth career weekly honor for Svozilova and third for Adams.
Adams and Svozilova helped lead the Owls to a 3-1 week that saw the pair remain perfect at 8-0 on the season, earning four more straight-set sweeps at the 1s during the FIU Invite. The duo hasn't dropped a single set this season through eight matches.

🔼 Owls ‘N’ Gators in the Swamp … What Could Go Wrong? Florida Atlantic baseball will travel to Gainesville tonight for a meeting with No. 7 Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, airing on SEC Network Plus.
The Owls are 10-1 after sweeping Fordham over the weekend, the fourth-best start for the program in the last 30 years. Florida is 11-1 after taking two of three from Miami over the weekend and will play UCF in Orlando on Tuesday.

Behind four players in double figures, led by the first career double-double from sophomore Kaleb Glenn, Florida Atlantic men's basketball beat South Florida, 69-63, Sunday to mark the first road win over the Bulls in program history.
