Paradise Brew 3/24: No Sweat, Figuratively Speaking

The FAU football team battled humid conditions for their seventh practice as faculty coaches and Pro Day scouts looked on.

Good morning, Owls Family. The FAU football team reached the midway point of the 2025 spring season under first-year head coach coach Zach Kittley, who not only orchestrated the team's practice, but also welcomed faculty coaches as well as more than a dozen scouts who were on-site for the 2025 Pro Day.

The Owls were put through their paces under a blanket cloud cover, but with temperature in the high 70s and the humidity over 70%, FAU was tested more so than any of the first seven practices.

πŸ”Ό King Of the Court. Mark Havlicek, who has been an integral part of the No. 70 Florida Atlantic men's tennis team's eight-game winning streak, has been named the AAC Men's Player of the Week.

Havlicek is on a six-match winning streak in singles play and four-match streak in doubles. FAU also won each of the doubles points last week, of which the Czech Republican was a major factor. Last week, Havlicek captured each of his three singles matches in straight sets and was critical in the team securing the doubles point in each of the team's three contests.

πŸ”Ό A Little Birdie Bragged To Us. NaShawn Tyson (-16) fired a final round 68 on Tuesday to win the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate by seven shots. It's the first collegiate victory for the sophomore from Stuart, Florida, and the second individual victory for an Owl this season, joining Biagio Gagliardi, who won the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in October.

As a team, the Florida Atlantic men's golf finished fourth at +8. The hosts, UNCW, ran away with the team championship at -15 – 16 shots better than second-place James Madison.

⛳️ : THE FULL RUNDOWN

πŸ”Ό Oh-Yeatts! The No. 22 Florida Atlantic softball team has earned another accolade from the AAC. For the second time this season, Chloe Yeatts was named to the AAC Weekly Honorable Mention list.

In their series win over Charlotte (15-18, 3-6), Yeatts brought power at the plate for the Owls (29-5, 8-1), going 4-for-8 and leading them in on-base percentage (.667), slugging (1.125%), walks (four), RBI (four), and extra base hits (three).

After three weeks of league play, the Owls remain at the top of the AAC standings at 8-1 and have won six straight conference series dating back to 2024.

πŸ”Ό Tennis Was in John’s Genes. Senior tennis player John Bernard is the son of two college tennis alumni. His father, John, played at Radford and his mother, Leslie, played at Rutgers. Bernard was put into tennis at an early age, beginning to play seriously around five years old. Having parents that have been in his shoes has helped him tremendously, and he calls it a plus rather than something that added pressure.

"They know how it feels so they can support me during a tough match or a tough day. Development wise, they always knew what could help me and where I needed to improve."

πŸ”Ό Onward and Upward. The Florida Atlantic baseball team fell to Florida Gulf Coast by a 3-2 final on Tuesday night. The Owls (19-6) had the bases loaded with no outs in a tie game in the top of the ninth but could not score. FGCU (9-16) responded with three hits in the bottom of the inning to secure the walk-off victory.
