Pat Murphy, a member of Florida Atlantic baseball’s first two teams in 1981 and 1982, managed the Milwaukee Brewers to the first World Series title in franchise history Wednesday night, closing out Tampa Bay in five games. The two-time National League Manager of the Year guided Milwaukee to 103 wins and a third straight NL Central crown before a 10-2 romp through the postseason that included a sweep of the Dodgers. Murphy was inducted into the FAU Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.

🦉 And much, much more

🔼 Seniors Deliver. Florida Atlantic men’s soccer blanked South Florida 3-0 on Senior Night, with the senior class accounting for all three goals and three assists on the evening. Alfred Mikkelsen made history on the opener, taking a free kick that Michel Tentchou headed to DJ Koulai for the finish, making Mikkelsen the first goalkeeper in recorded program history to register a point. The keeper needed just one save for another clean sheet, and the Owls now sit tied with UAB for the final postseason spot heading into Sunday’s finale in Birmingham.

🔼 Records in the Rain. Florida Atlantic fell 48-41 at North Texas in a meeting of the American’s two top offenses, with the Owls’ comeback bid ending when an onside kick bounced the wrong way. Easton Messer set the program reception record, catching every target thrown his way for 189 yards and three touchdowns, while Caden Veltkamp tied his own program mark with five touchdown passes and became the first Owl quarterback with multiple 400-yard games. Dominique Henry added a career-best 10 catches for 116 yards.

🔼 Back on the Road. Florida Atlantic volleyball hits the road for a pair of American matches, opening today at Tulsa before closing the weekend Sunday at Wichita State. Both the Owls and Golden Hurricane sit tied for fourth in the conference, and FAU brings a top-five league ranking in kills, assists, hitting percentage, and service aces into the trip. The Owls have dropped three straight to the Shockers, including a four-set loss in last year’s meeting in Boca Raton.

🔼 Meet the Newcomer. Freshman outfielder Olivia Bennett, one of 14 newcomers on Florida Atlantic’s 2027 softball roster, hails from Blackshear, Georgia, where she played basketball and ran track alongside softball at Pierce County High School. Athleticism runs in the family: her older brother Stetson quarterbacked Georgia to two national titles and is now with the Los Angeles Rams. Get to know her in a rapid-fire Q&A.
