Paradise Brew 10/27: On Ice

Plus: Get to know your Owls better.

Good Morning, FAU Family. That’s a sweep for FAU volleyball, which knocked off UAB in an American Conference battle on Sunday afternoon!

The Owls also secured a four-set win at Memphis on Friday evening. Next up, FAU will take on Wichita State at home on Halloween at 6 p.m.

What else do we have mixed into today’s Brew? Check it out below!

🦉 And much, much more

🔼 Tee Off. FAU men’s golf will host the Florida Atlantic Invitational at the Panther National Golf Club. It’s the second edition of the tournament, which gets underway today and runs through tomorrow. The 54-hole event is the final fall event for the Owls. More details here.

🔼 Conference Foes. The Owls posted a late-game surge, but fell short in the fourth quarter, dropping a 42-32 contest to Navy on Saturday afternoon. The Owls kept it close against the conference’s only undefeated team, holding tight within a score at halftime and scoring three TDs in the game’s final minutes. WR Jayshon Platt shined offensively with 121 receiving yards and 202 all-purpose yards, while fellow wide receiver Jabari Smith Jr. logged his first multi-touchdown game of his career. On defense, linebacker Tyler Stolsky tallied his third-straight game with at least 12 tackles (13 on Saturday), the first Owl to do so since Azeez Al-Shaiir in 2017.

🔼 A Captain’s Contribution. Sixth-year senior offensive lineman Alex Atcavage is a critical contributor for the Owls on and off the field. The captain brings a unique journey to the football field, from a small farming town in Pennsylvania down to Boca Raton. Atcavage sits down to talk about his path to the gridiron, why things are different under new head coach Zach Kittley, and so much more.

🔼 On Ice. FAU redshirt freshman Mauricio Hinds grew up on the ice, learning how to skate on his family’s pond in Nova Scotia. Get to know Hinds better, and how he ended up trading the ice for the gridiron.

🔼 Pads Off. Go Pads Off with FAU redshirt sophomore DB Derrick Rogers! Rogers joined the Owls in January of this year, and has since become a dominating force on the team’s defensive unit. Get to know Rogers as he sits down with Frank Forte.

🔼 Draw It Up. FAU men’s soccer played to a 3-3 draw against UAB in an American Conference showdown. The Owls are in a three-way tie for first place with two games left to go in the regular season. FAU got goals from Kerfalla Toure, Fabian Wagner, and Emil Lausten in Friday’s draw.

The Owls will be back on the pitch in Tampa on Wednesday, Oct. 29, against USF at 7 p.m., then will head home on Sunday, Nov. 2, to end the regular season.
