Paradise Brew 10/21: Took Those Bulls By the Horns
FAU Volleyball handed the USF Bulls their first conference loss on Sunday
Good morning, Owls Family. Florida Atlantic Volleyball knocked off the conference-leading South Florida Bulls on Sunday, handing USF its first conference loss of the season in a dominant four-set win, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14) inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The Owls improve to 12-8 on the season and 4-4 in AAC play, while South Florida falls to 11-8 overall and 7-1 in league play.
Valeria Rosado, Katelynn Robine, and Kaila Ru each recorded double-figure kills in the win. Rosado led the Owls with a team-high 15 kills, hitting .303, while also adding nine digs and a pair of blocks on the day.

🔼 No Rally Cap Needed. Florida Atlantic redshirt junior Victoria Gomez Hayon won a three-set battle on Sunday to advance to the ITA Southeast Championship semifinal match, played in Atlanta, Georgia, and hosted by Georgia Tech.
Gomez O'Hayon dropped the first set to FIU's Oyintomo Quadre but rallied to capture sets two and three and the match by a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 score.
Gomez O'Hayon will return to the Georgia Tech courts at 1 p.m. ET today to play Miami's Raquel Gonzalez.

🔼 Winning Outside Paradise Works. FAU Men’s Soccer’s win against FIU is huge for the teams’ conference standings. Congrats!
🔼 Rained On the Soccer Parade. Florida Atlantic's women's soccer team fell to Memphis 1-0 on a rainy and windy Sunday evening in Boca Raton.
The Owls will hit the road to Philadelphia to take on the Owls of Temple on Thursday, Oct. 24. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+.
🔼 They Did Swimmingly. The Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming & diving teams completed their first home meet of the season on Friday afternoon against Keiser.
The Owls swept the meet, with the women taking a commanding 234 to 64 victory that included 14 event victories. The men finished the meet with a 172 to 128 win, with seven events taken by the Owls.
🔼 Pod Hoopla. The latest episode of the Paradise Pod dropped this week, featuring an extended conversation with head women's basketball coach Jennifer Sullivan. The podcast also looks ahead to Saturday's football showdown at UTSA and recaps a busy stretch of fall sports action.
Hosted by Voice of the Owls Ken LaVicka and former men's basketball player Damon Arnette, the third episode previews basketball season, which is right around the corner. The pair wrapped up the show with a conversation about the best food cities in the American Athletic Conference.
🔼 Silver Linings. On Saturday afternoon, the Florida Atlantic football team was defeated by UTSA, 38-24.
Despite the game ending up in the Roadrunners' favor, the Owls (2-5, 0-3 AAC) made several timely plays and saw multiple players etch themselves in the program record book.
🔼 Twice as Nice. Florida Atlantic women's tennis took to the courts on both Friday and Saturday to showcase the Owls' double play, with the duo of newcomer Malwina Rowinska and senior Victoria Gomez O'Hayon advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2024 Southeast Regional Championship.
🔼 End of the Road … For Now. The 2024 ITA Southeast Regional Championship ended for the Florida Atlantic men's tennis team with senior John Bernard falling to tournament host Georgia in the consolation Round of Eight. Georgia also took the doubles quarterfinal match from Jiri Jenicek and Mark Havlicek.
