Paradise Brew 11/1: One Isn't the Loneliest Number

Today, we celebrate—it took a single goal for FAU women's soccer to reach the AAC semifinals.

Good morning. After facing the South Florida Bulls in the last game of the regular season, it was already time for Florida Atlantic women's soccer to face them again on Thursday evening. This time, the stakes were higher, as it was in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament.

The match remained scoreless through the first half. In the 63rd minute, the Owls took the lead with a goal by Molly Setsma with an assist from Michelle Horan to put Florida Atlantic on top. Goalkeeper Lexi Gonzalez recorded six saves on the night to shut out the Bulls.

Florida Atlantic advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 AAC Championship tournament and is set to face the No. 3 seed SMU on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.

Putting it Owl on the Line. Florida Atlantic men's soccer (5-6-3, 3-4 AAC) closes the regular season on Wednesday at USF (5-8-1, 2-4-1 AAC). A win would secure the Owls' place in the AAC Postseason Tournament for the first time. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Owls enter Wednesday's play with nine points, fifth in the AAC standings. The top six at the conclusion of play on Wednesday qualify for the conference tournament. FAU could finish fourth, fifth, or sixth. Go here for more on the various scenarios that would help the Owls to advance.

🔼 Playing Above Board. Florida Atlantic women’s soccer team earned the Team Fair Play Award after its inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference, which is an accolade that’s decided based on the points the umpires give to teams.

In addition to this honor, Florida Atlantic defender Jodi Smith has been named to the AAC All-Conference Second Team, and freshman Olivia Bori was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team.

On being recognized as All-Conference Second Team, Smith said, "I am super thankful for this achievement, especially as we moved into a new conference, I couldn't have done it without any of the girls who I get to play alongside; it's a team effort, and without them, it would be very hard.”

Bori, who made an appearance in 18 games and started in 17 this season, said, "I am so honored for this achievement and am grateful for my teammates, coaches, and family for their continuous support! I am looking forward to my first conference tournament and postseason run with my team! Go Owls!".
