🔼 That’s Classic. Florida Atlantic men's basketball team is set to play Oklahoma State in the 2024 Shriners Children's Hospital Charleston Classic from Nov. 21-24, held at the TD Arena. ESPN Events released the bracket on Thursday afternoon.
Hosted by ESPN Events and aired on several ESPN platforms, the Owls will take the national stage early as incoming Head Coach John Jakus and the new Owls roster will get to showcase their talents to the world. Florida Atlantic participated in the 2023 ESPN Events Invitational at Walt Disney World, where they walked out of the happiest place on Earth as champions, taking the win against Butler, followed by beating No. 12 Texas A&M and concluding in an 84-50 victory over Virginia Tech in the championship game.
🔼 Owl Take a Rain Check, Thanks. Florida Atlantic's football team has enjoyed HOT, sunny mornings for much of the preseason, but Thursday's practice was cut short due to lightning in the area.
With Thursday's mindset of preparing for Michigan State and the 2024 season opener on Friday, Aug. 30, the Owls focused on full-team and special-teams work.
Watching the coaches and players work through the drills was reminiscent of the September 6, 2008, East Lansing, Michigan State vs. Florida Atlantic contest, "Spartans Win Rain-Soaked Game in East Lansing." 2008 Game Photos.
🔼 Buggs in the Burrow and More. In its ninth season, Florida Atlantic football's 'Inside the Owls Burrow’ will air this week on Thursday, Aug. 22nd, at 4:30 p.m. ET and re-air on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11:30 a.m. The show originates on Bally Sports Florida but can also be viewed on fausports.com and YouTube.
This week, Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Tom Herman wraps up training camp and reveals the 2024 team's four captains. Cornerback "Buggs" Kahzir Brown is featured, wide receiver Milan Tucker is "Wired For Sound," and the show will go inside a team meeting with guest speaker former NFL quarterback Danny Kanell. Lastly, there will be an update on the summer recipient of the Wilma Rudolph Award, Courtney Lamas-Lanier.
🔼 Getting Their Flowers. The Palm Beach County commissioners honored the Florida Atlantic softball team for their successful 2024 campaign.
The Owls are coming off a 41-win season, an American Athletic Conference regular-season championship, and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Regional since 2016. The recognition included remarks by Head Coach Jordan Clark and a plaque presentation for the entire team.
🔼 Nacho Night to Win, Creighton. Florida Atlantic men's soccer opened the 2024 season with a scoreless draw against Creighton on Thursday night.
The Owls weathered an early storm from the Bluejays in the first 20 minutes. Goalkeeper Nacho Alfaro was sharp in his FAU debut. He would finish with four saves and a clean sheet. Offensively, the Owls had two shot attempts, but neither was on goal.
Florida Atlantic will complete its season-opening road trip on Sunday against the University of Nebraska Omaha. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
