Paradise Brew 11/8: Move Over, Nostradamus
Today, CBS Sports' Gary Parrish predicts FAU will once again make the Final Four.
Good morning. Entering the 2022-2023 season with only one NCAA Tournament appearance and no wins to their name, the Owls put together a season that brought a nation-leading 35 wins, including a 20-game win streak, an undefeated 17-0 record at home, and a conference championship that gave them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Despite the heartbreaking conclusion, this FAU team is one that will never be forgotten, as evidenced by the Final Four banner now permanently displayed inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Considering the Owls came in at No. 10 in this year’s AP preseason poll, and they were ranked No. 1 in the AAC Preseason Poll, Gary Parrish’s prediction of another Final Four appearance seems more than credible.

🔼 Vying for a Windy City Win. The No. 10 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will open their highly anticipated 2023-24 campaign tonight at 7pm ET against Loyola Chicago as part of the Barstool Classic Invitational.
The Owls will welcome back 14 out of 15 players from the Final Four team, with junior guards Alijah Martin and Johnell Davis having been named to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference First Team and Preseason Players of the Year. FAU is one of only five D-1 teams not to have a single player enter the transfer portal. In addition, they bring back head coach Dusty May, who signed a 10-year contract extension in April.
Played at Chicago's Wintrust Arena, this marks the first of seven neutral site games for the Owls currently on the schedule.
The next game will be the first chance of the season for Owls fans to pack the Elly, with the team's home opener set for Tuesday, Nov. 14, against Eastern Michigan, tipping off at 7pm ET. Florida Atlantic's 2023-24 season is sponsored by Phil Smith Kia/Phil Smith Acura.
🔼 Fine, Call it Football—Just Don’t Call Us Late For the Finals. Sixth-seeded Florida Atlantic men's soccer (6-7-3, 3-5 AAC) meets second-seeded Charlotte (10-3-1, 6-2 AAC) in the American Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday at 4:30pm ET. No. 1 SMU hosts No. 4 Memphis on the other side of the bracket.
The Owls are looking to reach a conference title game for the third time in program history (2007 - a win in the Atlantic Conference Tournament, 2021 lost to No. 15 Kentucky in the C-USA Championship).
The Owls defeated the 49ers in PKs in the 2021 C-USA Quarterfinals – the first and only time the two sides have met in the postseason.
Owls soccer fans, take note—The AAC Championship match is scheduled for 2pm ET on Sunday afternoon, so clear your schedules.

🔼 Frontline News From the Midfield. Following the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship tournament, Molly Setsma was named one of the eleven all-tournament recipients announced by the league on Sunday evening.
The no. 7-seed Owls shut out the no. 2-seed Bulls on Tuesday night, Oct. 31. Setsma connected with a pass by Michelle Horan and scored the night's winning goal. The goal on Tuesday evening recorded a new career-high for Setsma. She was named AAC Weekly Honor Roll recipient the week of October 9.
On being selected as an all-tournament recipient, Setsma said, "I'm extremely grateful for being selected to the all-tournament team. This honor would not have been possible without my amazing teammates and coaches and their constant support all season. Go Owls!".
This marks the first time in her career she has been named an all-tournament honoree.
