Paradise Brew 11/3: In The Driver's Seat
Today, we talk strategy for Saturday's game against UAB.
Good morning. Every week is a chance for the Florida Atlantic University football team (4-4, 3-1 AAC) to level up as they continue to fight for a chance to play in the AAC championship game.
This Saturday’s game will mark the 10th meeting between FAU and UAB. Since 2020, the two schools have traded wins, both winning at home, also meeting in a conference championship in 2019. FAU came away with the 49-6 C-USA Championship victory, and the Owls hold the all-time 6-3 record versus the Blazers.
Junior quarterback Daniel Richardson’s leadership has led to opening drives of three touchdowns and a field goal, so another fast start will be critical against UAB.

🔼 The Buck Stops With Rotem. Florida Atlantic men's soccer will live to fight another day in the AAC postseason. The Owls dropped the season finale 2-0 to USF on Wednesday night, but a win by SMU against Temple and a draw from FIU against Tulsa was enough to secure the Owls the six-seed. A rematch with the FIU Panthers—whom the Owls defeated in Boca on October 20—now awaits on Sunday night in Miami.
FAU saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday. USF took the lead in the 12th minute and added an insurance marker with a PK in the 82nd minute. Goalkeeper Rotem Fadida set a new season-high with nine saves.
The start time for Sunday's match is still to be determined. Streaming will be available on ESPN+. The winner between the Owls and the Panthers will advance to face Charlotte in the semifinals on Nov. 9.

🔼 Loaded For Bear. After earning a dominant 90-43 exhibition win against the Barry University Buccaneers on Wednesday inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, Florida Atlantic women's basketball will now set its eyes on the 2023-24 season opener.
The Owls scored five unanswered to open the contest to take the opening lead, 5-0. They continued their momentum into the second, outscoring Barry 5-0 through the second-quarter media timeout to extend the Owls' lead to 30, 37-7. The Owls nearly matched the Buccaneers over the final five minutes of the first half as they would take a 46-18 lead into the half.
Out of the break, the Owls doubled up the Buccaneers on an 8-4 run to lead 54-22 at the third-quarter media timeout. The opening two minutes of the fourth was the biggest battle for the Owls, but FAU still emerged 6-5 over the Buccaneers. They scored 11 unanswered points through the 3:12-minute mark to extend the lead to 84-31. The Owls rode their advantage over the final three minutes of play, eventually closing out the 90-43 win.
The Owls will now prepare for their season opener on Nov. 9 as they travel to Macon, Georgia, to kick off the 2023-24 season against the Mercer Bears. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET inside Hawkins Arena.
