Paradise Brew 11/15: Home Sweet Elly
Today, we celebrate 19 straight home victories for FAU men's basketball.
Good morning. The No. 10 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team (2-0) kept up their strong start to the 2023-24 season with a crushing 100-57 victory over Eastern Michigan (1-2) on Tuesday evening.
Now at 19 straight home victories, the Owls dominated in their first game of the season at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena in front of a record crowd of 3,161 thanks to a strong shooting night (62.5% from the field, 52% from three-point range) and 25 assists.
For the second season in a row, the Owls hit 100 points against the Eagles, who had no answers for an on-fire Florida Atlantic offense.

🔼 Down But Not Out. The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team (1-1) gritted out a huge overtime road win against the North Florida Ospreys (1-2) on Monday at UNF Arena.
Aniya Hubbard got things started for Florida Atlantic, jumping out to a 2-0 lead; however, a 12-4 Osprey run pushed North Florida out to a 12-6 lead at the 3:07-minute mark. The Owls answered back with five unanswered, on back-to-back buckets from Mya Perry. The first half continued with this back and forth, but the Owls found a way to close it out with a two-point advantage at 30-28.
North Florida produced a 19-8 run to retake the lead in the third quarter. Thankfully, Hubbard scored back-to-back layups over the final two minutes to cut the deficit to four entering the final 10 minutes of play.
The Owls locked in an 8-2 run to lead by five with just over a minute to play. North Florida hit a 3-pointer at the 0:44-minute mark and then scored on a layup with just eight seconds to play to tie it up at 66.
North Florida kept the score within two over the first three minutes of overtime, 72-70, but that was as close as the Ospreys would get. The Owls closed the contest on a 12-5 run to seal the win and earn the 84-75 road victory.
"Any time you can go on the road, it's big,” said head coach Jennifer Sullivan. We had lots of moments we could have hung our heads, and we didn't.”
The Owls return home this week as they host Chicago State for their home opener on Friday, Nov. 17. Tipoff is set for 8pm ET inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on ESPN+.
🔼 Anchor Woman. After helping lead the Owls to their second American Athletic Conference sweep of the season, Valeria Rosado is the AAC Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor marks the first AAC Player of the Week award for the Owls and for Rosado.
Rosado had a huge week defensively, anchoring the Owls' back row during their series sweep against the Charlotte 49ers. Rosado tied for second on the team with 29 digs, averaging 3.22 per set. She also recorded an impressive seven blocks, posted 27 kills, and averaged 3.0 per set throughout the series. She recorded her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season over the two matches.
The Owls return home for their final home series of the regular season, hosting the USF Bulls on Thursday, Nov. 16, and on Friday, Nov. 17, for Senior Day inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
🔼 Pulling Rank. The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team remains ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
On Nov. 8, the Owls opened their 2023-24 campaign with a 75-62 win in the Barstool Invitational over Loyola Chicago. FAU was bolstered by a strong defensive performance and four players scoring in double figures, led by Vladislav Goldin's 19 points along with 10 rebounds, five blocks, and four steals. Nick Boyd added 13, while Johnell Davis and Brandon Weatherspoon both scored 12.
In addition to Tuesday’s home opener, Head Coach Dusty May and the team will face Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 6pm ET at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. FAU will then travel to Kissimmee, Florida, to compete in the ESPN Events Invitational from Thursday, Nov. 23 - Sunday, Nov. 26. On Thanksgiving day, the Owls will face Butler on ESPN2 at 2:30pm ET.
