Paradise Brew 9/25: Down To The Wire

Today, we're turning the page on a close game up in Champaign and got our sights set on AAC play.

Good morning. Florida Atlantic basketball season is right around the corner. What better way to get ready than with the team introducing themselves to a couple pieces of jewelry they earned last year?

What else did we mix into today’s Brew?

🔼 Down To The Wire. Despite LaJohntay Wester putting together his third straight game with double-digit receptions (not to mention the highlight reel touchdown you see above) and new starting quarterback Daniel Richardson finishing with 256 passing yards and two touchdowns—FAU football dropped a close 23-17 game to Illinois over the weekend.

📅 The Owls will enjoy a bye week before their next game on Saturday, October 7. The New Era will shift into full gear for the first American Athletic Conference game in FAU Football history, against Tulsa at Boca Raton's FAU Stadium.

🔼 Eyes Forward. FAU men's soccer fell to 0-2 in the AAC after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Charlotte last night. After a scoreless first half, the 49ers took the lead 59th minute. They doubled it 10 minutes later and added an insurance marker with four minutes left in the second half.

🔼 Blanked ‘Em. FAU women’s soccer recorded a 2-0 shutout victory over FIU last night. The Owls are now winners of their last two matchups against the Panthers, and it’s their first one since joining the AAC.

The match remained scoreless through the first half—but in the 62nd of the match, Sofia Voldby scored her first goal of the season assisted by Emmy Schleifer to take the lead. Shortly after Malaya Melancon scored a goal on a penalty to extend the lead two nil.

The Owls recorded five shots and three saves on the night, compared to the Panthers with 11 shots, three shots on goal, and one save. It’s the 11th time the Owls have shut out the Panthers in program history.

🔼 First Of Many. FAU volleyball closed out their American Athletic Conference home-opening weekend with a dominant four-set win (25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19) against Temple to register their first AAC win of the season.

Much needed break. FAU football is approaching their bye week this coming weekend and then it’s time to roll out the red carpet for Tulsa to come to town in the program’s inaugural AAC game.

🦉 ONE BIG THING

New coach. New era. New conference. New tailgate experiences for FAU football fans.

The Owls will play their inaugural American Athletic Conference contests against Tulsa on Saturday, October 7 and will then host UTSA on Saturday, October 21—and in celebration of the historic first two AAC contests, a new tailgating event is being presented by Islamorada Brewery & Distillery.

While the kick times have not been announced, the tailgates will open two and a half hours prior to game time and will be located outside of FAU Stadium Gates 1 and 2.
