Paradise Brew 1/8: Davis Domination
Despite the two-point loss to Charlotte in MBB, Johnell Davis continues to sink shot after shot.
Good morning. Even when the Owls don’t win in men’s hoops, there’s so much to appreciate in their consistently excellent level of play.
Take, for instance, this shot from well beyond the arc by MBB phenom Johnell Davis.
Despite a heartbreaking two-point loss to Charlotte on Saturday (more on that below), it’s important to note that Davis has recorded 20 points in consecutive games for the second time in his collegiate career. Nick Boyd scored a season-high 19, and Boyd and Davis combined for 22 of the Owls' last 24 points.
The details matter.

📈 STOCK UP
🔼 A Scrappy Saturday. The No. 17 Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team (11-4, 1-1 AAC) fell to Charlotte (7-7, 1-1 AAC), 70-68, on Saturday afternoon.
It was another battle for the Owls, who overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to take the lead but ultimately came up just short on two free throws in the final second.
"Credit to our guys, they got back and fought, scrapped, clawed, got us in position to win the game,” said head coach Dusty May. “If we are going to continue to be in one-possession games, the numbers say it is going to be back-and-forth. We have to figure out a way to get our edge back, start defending at a higher level, and moving the ball like we are capable of doing."
A Couple of Other Noteworthy Owls Stats:
The Owls converted 17 out of 20 free throw attempts (85%) and were a perfect 15-for-15 in the second half. It was their second-best performance from the free-throw line all season
Florida Atlantic outscored Charlotte 42-29 in the second half
The Owls will remain on the road, taking on Tulane (10-4, 1-1 AAC) on Thursday, Jan. 11. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and aired on ESPN2.
🔼 Back to the Elly…and the Drawing Board. Florida Atlantic women's basketball (5-9, 0-3 AAC) could not overcome another slow start as the Owls fell to North Texas (12-3, 2-1 AAC) on Sunday inside the Super Pit.
"Disappointing game,” head coach Jennifer Sullivan said. “Just another game in which we had a slow start to get things going. It was also not one of our best defensive performances. We really struggled to get stops and we just can't afford games like this. Across the board, I don't know if there are a lot of positive takeaways from this game, except we just need to regroup and get better.”
On a positive note, Jada Moore, who led the Owls in the contest alongside Janeta Rozentale, scored a career-high 21 points.
The Owls return home this next week for a two-game homestretch, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 10 against the UTSA Roadrunners. Tipoff is set for 7pm ET inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and on ESPN+.
