Paradise Brew 3/18 - Dance Card Full

Selection Sunday has FAU MBB team as the East Region's eighth seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament

Good morning. The Owls are back in The Big Dance.

The Round of 64 matchup is set for Friday, March 22, between the No. 8 Florida Atlantic Owls and the No. 9 Northwestern Wildcats in Brooklyn, New York's Barclays Center.

FAU will be a part of March Madness for the second straight year and the third time in program history after posting a 25-8 record; already their second-most wins in a season. While last year's Final Four run will live forever in college basketball lore, the Owls are looking to write another chapter in the history books after proving they belonged on the biggest stage with the best in the nation.

🔼 FAU Football in Effect. The Florida Atlantic Owls enjoyed the ability to go to 100% at spring practice #3 with the new element of full pads. They also had their first small scrimmage of the spring season, with a more complete scrimmage scheduled for next Saturday, March 23.

“They have walked right into Coach Herman's [Hagerty Family Head Football Coach Tom Herman] message and what we are trying to get accomplished as a team,” Co-Defensive Everyone Coordinator Brandon Harris said of the newcomers.

🔼 One Mora. The FAU men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded the three-day 2024 National Invitational Championships on Saturday. With most Owls competing in their final meet of the season, they posted several impressive times competing amongst the best collegiate competition and set a school record in the process.

One final meet remains on the schedule: diver Alicia Mora will compete in her second consecutive NCAA Diving Championships, beginning on Wednesday, March 20, in Athens, Georgia.

🔼 Maine Squeeze. Florida Atlantic baseball needed just seven innings on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of Maine with a 10-0, run-rule victory. The Owls have won five straight going into a midweek matchup with UCF on Tuesday.

The Owls will look to extend their season-long winning streak to six games on Tuesday at UCF. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

🔼 Sweeping Up. The Florida Atlantic softball team (23-7, 5-1) celebrated a come-from-behind 5-4 walk-off win to complete the three-game sweep of fellow American Athletic Conference member UAB on Sunday.

The next four FAU games will be played on the road. The Owls will travel to FIU for a single game on Wednesday, Feb. 20, and will then play a three-day, three-game series at Memphis over the weekend.

🔼 Sandy Owls Split. The No. 16 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (10-7, 2-2 CUSA) closed out play in the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational on Saturday, splitting against Palm Beach Atlantic (9-10), 5-0, and No. 12 FIU (14-3, 1-1 CUSA), 4-1 at Pompano Beach. Olivia Strandberg and Mikayla Law-Heese improved to tie for a team-leading 10-5 record this season.

The Sandy Owls will now prepare for a trip to Fort Myers, Florida, where they will compete at FGCU's tournament on Wednesday, March 20.

🔼 Getting Their Feet Wet. Florida Atlantic's women's track & field team concluded their opening weekend of the 2024 outdoor season on Saturday at the USF Alumni Invitational. The second day brought great progress for the Owls, with a school record and new entries into the program's top 10 among the day's highlights.

Next, the Owls will head south to the University of Miami to participate in the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, March 23.
