After guiding Men's Basketball to consecutive NCAA Tourney showings, Coach May Goes to Michigan
Good morning. Dusty May, who has served as the head men's basketball coach at FAU since the 2018-19 season, has been hired by the University of Michigan to fill its men's basketball head coaching vacancy.
May guided the Owls to consecutive NCAA Tournament berths in the last two seasons, including a Final Four appearance during the Owls' historic 2023-23 campaign. FAU was 126-69 in May's tenure, including a 60-13 record over the past two years – the third most wins nationally in that span.
"The University of Michigan has hired a phenomenal basketball coach and an even better person,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White. May was White’s first hire at FAU. “In addition to his historic level of competitive success, Dusty built a world-class culture within our men's basketball program.”

🔼 A Cat-5 Performance at Hurricane Collegiate. Florida Atlantic's women's track and field team braved a weather delay to put on a spectacular performance at the UM Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on Saturday. The Owls posted several personal bests and top-10 finishes on the action-packed day.
The next meet scheduled for the Owls takes place in Tampa at the USF Invitational, set from Friday, Apr. 5 to Saturday, Apr. 6.
🔼 The Sun Sets on a Spectacular Season. On Friday afternoon, Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team stormed back from a second-half deficit but fell to Northwestern in overtime by a score of 77-65 in the 2024 NCAA Tournament's Round of 64.
The Owls, who entered the game with the 16th-best scoring offense in the nation at 82.5 points per game, had to play a defensive game most of the way. It was a true tale of two halves; both teams shot under 33% from the field in the first and over 50% in the second, as FAU battled the whole way no matter what adversity came their way.
"I'd like to express gratitude for taking so many people on a great ride, and we had great moments today,” said Coach May after the heartbreaking loss.
🔼 Charlotte defeated Florida Atlantic baseball 13-1 in Sunday's series finale, denying the Owls a three-game sweep to open conference play.
“When you have a chance to sweep, you've got to take advantage of it,” said head coach John McCormack. “It doesn't happen that often, especially in a good league like this."
The Owls will host Florida Gulf Coast in midweek non-conference action tomorrow and will then head to Memphis for a Thursday-Saturday AAC series.
🔼 Their Sunday Best. Florida Atlantic Head Softball Coach Jordan Clark subscribes to "Champions Win on Sunday." The Owls have taken that to heart by outscoring their AAC Sunday opponents 40-10, including an 18-1 five-inning victory over host Memphis on Sunday. FAU clinched their third straight AAC series and second sweep with the win. The Owls, who improved to 27-7 overall and 8-1 in AAC play, sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning and ended their first frame holding a 13-0 lead.
"A series sweep in a dominating fashion," said Head Coach Jordan Clark. "I'm proud of the girls for staying intentional in all parts of the game. We turn the page and start to prepare for Stetson on Tuesday."
🔼 Leveling Up. The Florida Atlantic women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss off the rackets of weekend host No. 60 VCU on Sunday morning. After rattling off 11 consecutive wins, the Owls have hit the most difficult portion of their schedule, playing only ranked opponents.
The Owls will next play host to Rice at 12pm ET on Monday, April 8, at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
🔼 Mother Nature Intervened. With three holes left in the second round of the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate, Florida Atlantic men's golf is in ninth place. Individually, Max Sturdza is even par and just two shots off the lead. The final round will begin immediately after all players complete round two on Monday.
The second round will resume this morning at 8:30am ET. There will be no re-pairing for the final round, which will commence immediately after round two concludes.
