Paradise Brew 3/6: A Climactic Conference Clash
It's a men's hoops battle between the top offense (FAU) and defense (UNT) in the AAC tonight
Good morning. FAU men's basketball team will hit the road for the final time in the 2023-24 regular season, taking on North Texas tonight, with tip-off at 8pm ET, airing on ESPN+.
It’s a battle between the top offense and defense in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls are the top-scoring team in the AAC at 83.2 points per game, ranking 14th in the country, while the Mean Green allow just 60.2 points per game, first in the conference and seventh nationwide.
In their previous matchup on Jan. 28, junior guard Johnell Davis knocked down the game-winning three-pointer with just 0.4 on the clock to give the Owls the 66-63 victory.
A rematch against Memphis (22-8, 11-6 AAC) is the last remaining home game. Tip-off will be at 12pm ET, and the game will air nationally on CBS.

🔼 Lights Out. The Florida Atlantic softball team concluded its trip to Arkansas with a 13-1 victory against Central Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon.
Pitcher Trinity Schlotterbeck started in the circle for Florida Atlantic and picked up her eighth win of the season. Schlotterbeck went four innings with four strikeouts. Sophomore Kelsey Endress allowed no runs pitching one inning to close out the game in relief for Schlotterbeck.
"We dominated on all sides of the ball tonight," head coach Jordan Clark said. "We talk about playing aggressive, fast, and throwing the first punch and we did that today. We scored in every inning and saw 15 different players get opportunities tonight."
The Owls will remain on the road as they travel to Wichita State for the first American Athletic Conference matchup on Friday, March 8.
🔼 A Challenge to a “Dual.” The 15th-ranked Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (6-2) will look to continue its momentum this week as the Sandy Owls head to Atlanta, Georgia, today to compete in the Georgia State Day of Duals.
Florida Atlantic will begin the Day of Duals with an 11am ET first serve against Austin Peay. The Sandy Owls will then take on Mercer at 1pm before closing out the tournament with a 5pm first serve against host Georgia State.
Following Wednesday's contests, the Sandy Owls will return home next Tuesday, March 12, as they host the Capri Classic.
🔼 Owls, Meet Owls. Florida Atlantic Owls’ women's basketball (10-17, 5-11 AAC) closes out its 2023-24 regular season slate this evening as the Owls head to Philadelphia to take on the AAC-leading Temple Owls (18-11, 12-5) in their inaugural matchup. Tipoff is set for 7pm ET.
The Owls enter their regular-season finale riding a two-game winning streak and at 11-17 overall and 6-11 in American Athletic Conference play.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Owls will prepare for the American Athletic Conference Championship on March 9-13 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
🔼 A Sports Smorgasbord. The Florida Atlantic Weekly Radio Show, presented by Duffy's Sports Grill, continues this week by featuring Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White, head women's golf coach Heather Young, and head men's soccer coach Joey Worthen. The trio along with show host Frank Forte will go live from Duffy's Sports Grill on St. Andrews Boulevard in Boca Raton, Florida this evening at 6:30pm ET.
Forte and White will discuss the 2023-24 successes, including four teams holding spots in the national polls this season as well as the basketball teams gearing up for their final regular-season games and the march towards their inaugural appearance in the 2023-24 AAC tournaments. Coach Young and her Owls are in the thick of their spring season, while Coach Worthen and his squad are putting in off-season work.
🔼 Mother Nature Needs a Word. Due to impending weather, the Florida Atlantic baseball team's game versus No. 4 Florida, originally scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 5, has been postponed to Tuesday, Apr. 30th, 2024. The rescheduled contest will be played in Gainesville, Florida. With the move, the Owls will turn their attention to this weekend's three-game series versus FIU, a series that FAU leads 80-53.
Friday's contest with FIU will be played in Boca Raton at 6:30pm ET. Saturday's game will be played in Miami on the campus of FIU at 5pm ET and Sunday's game is scheduled for noon in Boca Raton.
🔼 A Santa Barbara Split. The No. 35 Florida Atlantic Owls' men's tennis team closed out its California trip recording a 1-1 record in Santa Barbara, California, with a tight Sunday win over Oregon and a 4-0 loss to UCSB on Monday.
Each of the three teams holds a spot in the national rankings. The Owls, who are 11-4 on the year, hold the highest rank of #35, while host UCSB is 5-3 on the year and is ranked No. 75.
The Owls return home and will play host to East Tennessee on Thursday, March 14, at 5pm ET.
🔼 May’s Home Stretch. Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team (22-7, 12-4 AAC) is in the middle of their final stretch of the 2023-24 regular season, in which they play three games in seven days.
Ahead of Wednesday night's matchup on the road against North Texas and a battle against Memphis at home on Saturday for the final regular season game, head coach Dusty May met with the media on Monday afternoon.
“We seem as healthy as you can be this late in the season,” said May. “We’re ready to go.”
As for playing three games in seven days, May said, “We’re going in with great intensity. With great purpose. Luckily, this late in the season, we can talk about a few things. We don’t have to rep them and drill them.”
🔼 Practically Perfect. The Florida Atlantic women's tennis team reached the double-digit win plateau with a 5-2 win over Furman on Tuesday afternoon.
What makes the 10-win total even more special is that they have only played 11 matches total, falling just once in the first match of the season, a 4-3 decision to Northwestern, back in January. Just moments after the match ended, the weekly ITA national rankings were announced, with Florida Atlantic moving into the poll at No. 63.
"Our girls continue to look better physically, mentally, and tactically,” said Director of Tennis Ricardo Gonzalez. “Today, we beat a very tough Furman team who beat us last year. Our girls were ready to battle though and showed a lot of grit and toughness today."
The Owls will next play host to Pennsylvania at 10am ET on Thursday, March 7.
